In conjunction with Al Ghazali College, The Yunus Emre Institute, Cii Youth and the Thembekile Mandela Foundation, The Embassy of Kazakhstan invited students from across the country to participate in an essay competition about the life and works of the great Medieval Philosopher, Abu Nasr Al Farabi.
Abu Nasr Al Farabi was a renowned philosopher and academic who contributed greatly to many fields, including Mathematics, Physics, Medicine and Politics. As elaborated upon in my essay, Al Farabi’s work is extremely relevant in the contemporary world as it moulds the way we live today. His work in Mathematics (Geometry) influences the way our homes and skyscrapers are designed and built. His work in Physics allows us to travel safely between points A and B, and his political philosophy has the potential to create a peaceful means of living amongst people from all over the world.
At an awards ceremony hosted in December 2020, I was awarded 2nd place by
Mr Kanat Tumysh, the ambassador of Kazakhstan to South Africa, as
well as by Ndileka Mandela, the granddaughter of late President Nelson Mandela. I was privileged to network with ambassadors from many Far East Asian countries as well as other competitors from across the country.
