Taking Charge.
Dagbreek Men's Residence House Committee Member
In charge of Staff & Maintenance portfolio:
This portfolio was split into two committees: Staff & Maintenance. The Staff committee was meant to improve the connection between staff & Dagbreek residents. Issues which arise in relation to cleaning and kitchen staff regarding Dagbreek residents and vice versa were handled through this portfolio. A big part of this committee was to ensure that all the dining hall cutlery and plates remain in the dining hall, and to enforce that no cutlery and plates leave the dining hall. Maintenance issues were also addressed within this portfolio. Move in/ Move out forms and maintenance request were also done through this portfolio. All maintenance issues are directed to the Residence Coordinator and I was his right-hand man.
In charge of Sound Portfolio:
The purpose of this portfolio was to manage and maintain the existing sound and lighting equipment in Dagbreek and to provide and control the equipment for events within Dagbreek and externally would it be rented by third parties. This portfolio was also a learning platform for Dagbreek residents to develop a new skill. This portfolio strived to handle its own expenses by renting out the speakers to Dagbrekers holding external events or external parties on their own. My committee assisted me with proper management and maintenance of the sound equipment and aimed to fix broken equipment as soon as possible if required.
Section HC:
I was the section House Committee Member of 22 male students that I stayed with. My role to them was being an older brother/residence father. Being responsible for maintaining order and discipline among them, running weekly section meeting and organizing events inter-residence competitions. As well as being a mentor and an emergency contact to them. If they broke the rules, I was the first person to answer for them and their parents contacting me if something went wrong.

ECP Departmental Representative:
My role on the committee was to handle the nominations and selection process of the ECP class representatives and give them the information, they need on how to handle this position and what to do. Frequently communicate with lecturers and class representatives to make sure everybody knows what to do and what their responsibilities are. Meetings with class representatives was scheduled to explain to them what to do and what is expected of them.
The ECP program also has an extra project called the PIF (Paying it Forward) project, where the first years get a mentor to help and guide them through the year. In this program I selected mentors for the first years, and form groups with one mentor and a few first years. I also had to make sure the mentors were connecting and making time for their first years. First-years can ask mentors questions about academic help, mental help, or anything they need guidance with. Each mentor and their group also got a coffee voucher for them to come together and get to know each other. This program’s goal was to help ECP students connect and help them with problems they might cross.
The PIF program included monthly themed meetups and four structured workshops (VAE Sessions), designed to facilitate discussions and foster a supportive environment for new students. As the departmental representative overseeing the PIF Companion Program, I conducted a feedback survey among the mentors to assess the program’s impact and identify areas for improvement.
In PIF Responsibilities bullet form:
• Selecting mentors by sending application form links to 2nd and 3rd year ECP students.
• Emailing and regularly communicating with successful applicants.
