School Leadership.
Taking Charge.
Prefect, squash captain at St Mary’s, hockey captain of Gauteng B provincial team
Awards: I was elected the St Mary’s squash captain by the the school. I was also elected the the Gauteng hockey B team captain by my team.
I was a prefect which meant I was given certain authority over specific grades. I was allocated as the grade 9 leader and was responsible for making sure they were disciplined and could communicate any issues with me. I had roles like seating people in chapel and assemblies. I also had to attend meetings with the teachers and communicate information to the rest of the grade.
As squash captain, I had to help organise matches and transportation. I had to give feedback to the school regarding results. I was responsible for guiding the younger girls and ensuring every player felt supported. I organised gifts and awards for the team.
As the Gauteng provincial hockey captain my duty was to be a leader on and off the field. On the field I had to strategise as a collective and offer guidance and support to the team. Off the field I had to organise the group on tour. This included making sure everyone was on time, warmed up and motivated as a team. I had to make an effort to keep on eye on people who I could sense were feeling left out and consciously include them.
